Frugality Mentality

What is Frugality? Well This is what Wikipedia has to say

Common strategies of frugality include the reduction of waste, curbing costly habits, suppressing instant gratification by means of fiscal self-restraint, seeking efficiency, avoiding traps, defying expensive social norms, embracing free (as in gratis) options, using barter, and staying well-informed about local circumstances and both market and product/service realities.

As everyone knows we are in the middle of a recession. So with the economy not doing well, with debts to be paid and with the new lil'one. Joseph and I are rededicating ourselves to living a bit more Frugal. Thus having a frugality mentality. So i was thinking I would share some of our Frugality finds from time to time. Some we may stumble upon, you may already be doing, others may be a good idea that you might want to follow in suits. If you have any please feel free to share. Because sharing is caring!!

Here are a few Frugalities just to get started:
1. Recycle, We are saving plastic bottles and cans. One, to help limit waste on Mother Earth, and two, those cans can actually add up to some good cash. I worked an office where my job was to add up the recycling receipts for the year, from different stores. Those $2.13, $1.76 and $5.00 added up to over the year, added up to some serious $$. Most of the stores that I added up ended up gaining around $1,300-$2,000 over the year. Just from Recycling.

2. We have been buying a roast, cutting it half. Cooking that half for our Sunday meal, giving us a delicious Sunday meal, and left overs for the next day. With the other half, we cut, a couple of fajita strip sizes, stew meat size, and two round steaks. So lets say the Roast coast $12.00 we ended up getting Five meals for two people out of that $12.00. Nice huh.

3. Some items I only buy when they are on sale or if I have an awesome coupon. For instance, Joseph and I love Soda. But we only buy it when there are slamming good deals on it. Like the SUPERBOWL sales. Then we aren't drinking it all the time, and when we do drink it, it cost LESS. Thus letting us have some things we want even though we are trying to cut costs.

Those are just a few, they aren't that life changing, but a little goes a long way:) . What tips to you have?

Wow, saving money is so hard! I've cut back on any $3 purchases. Like the other day I found two pairs of shoes at the second hand store for $1.50 each. I decided to be frugal and not buy them b/c if I bought every cheap purchase then I would totally go over all the time. ANd that's my weakness, everything I buy is super cheap, but pennies make dollars. And if it's a larger purchase, i try to wait 24 hours and think about it before buying it. That helps with impusle shopping. Also, I remember my future trips/weekends that take gas and money, so I save for those...

When you grocery shop, check out the front page to see whats on sale. Those super cheap items are called "loss leaders", and they are super cheap to get you into the store. But if you only go in and buy those items, and stock up on them, you will save yourself a lot in the long run. And totally clip your coupons. Here is the website I use, it's local to utah, but the forum page has lots of info you can apply to your grocery shopping. Also, it will explain somewhere the "binder", which is awesome. Just look it up! You will love it!
